Camping

We went on our first camping trip as a family of 4 this past weekend and we will never make that mistake again, just kidding. It was great, the weather was perfect, the girls were awesome as usual and we got a decent amount of sleep. I was prepared for everything except how dirty the girls got and therefore we got. They were little dirt balls, Maddie was literally covered head to toe most of the trip in dirt. Faye was dirty too, but she doesn't fall as much as Maddie does. I hear about kids that hate being dirty, but have no idea what that is like. We started out on the first ferry to Vancouver Island, 6:20am and arrived at camp at 9am. After a quick nap in the car, we spent the day at the beach. We saw crabs, kelp, seashells, coral and half a mile of beach at low tide (lots of room to roam and explore). Our campsite was the second to last available when we booked and ended up being the best one, we thought. It was right next to the water which gave us a natural sound machine all night, we rarely heard another camper and their were plenty there (I think there are 300 campsites). The tent was a hit. Faye watched David put one stake in and she began doing the same thing to other corners of the tent, such a smarty and help. Bedtime was interesting, the girls loved the tent, the air mattress, being together, it was one big new playground. After about an hour Faye was out. It took Maddie a short stroll through the campsite to put her in the sleeping mood. They move a lot, a lot, when they sleep and both seemed to prefer to be as close to me as possible. I ended up putting my head where their feet where for some breathing room and all slept better that way. David cooked us Ravioli for dinner and pancakes and bacon for breakfast. It was nice to be in the great outdoors. David and I have very fond memories of camping with our families growing up and we want the same for Faye and Maddie.
